The transfer news cycle continues to turn even with the current season on hold throughout the coronavirus lockdown, with three Melbourne City players rumoured to be departing the club at the conclusion of the 2019/20 season.
Youngsters Denis Genreau, Lachie Wales and Nathaniel Atkinson are reported to have agreed terms with Macarthur FC, Western United and Perth Glory respectively, as per Jack Fitzgerald (@jackfitz41).
Whilst there has been much speculation over the past few months around Genreau’s proposed move to the league’s newest expansion side and lesser talk of Atkinson’s consideration of a potential transfer move, this is the first that we’ve heard of the prospect of a move for much-maligned winger Wales.
The Olyroo endured a horror 2019, with his poor league form only compiling on the off-field burden of his suspension from Australian representation for an off-field transgression earlier in the year, also handed down to teammate Atkinson, until mid-2020. Wales would primarily face competition on the Western United wings from former-Bentleigh Greens star Valentino Yuel and seasoned A-League utility Connor Pain, though United have tended to employ wing-backs as opposed to out-and-out wingers, with Pain and Socceroo Josh Risdon primarily occupying these spots.
