Melbourne City are at last back on the winner's list after accounting for the Central Coast Mariners on the road.
Goals from Jamie Maclaren, Andrew Nabbout and Carl Jenkinson were enough to ensure that City jumped to third place on the A-League Men's ladder.
Here's what we learned from the encounter:
A Bos in attack, not in defence
Today, we saw the pros and cons of Jordan Bos.
His ability to get forward and be an attacking threat was fantastic, but there was also the needless yellow card and the space he left behind at times on the left, which did leave us vulnerable to Central Coast counter-attacks, most notably when the Mariners scored their goal.
His career with Melbourne City is incredibly young, so the jury is still out on whether or not he's going to be a success with this club. One thing is for sure though: there is definite potential for him to be a good player in this league.
Our central midfield depth is exceptional
When our starting XI got announced today, there would have been understandable question marks regarding how defensively capable Marco Tilio, Florin Berenguer, and Connor Metcalfe would be on their own and as a unit, but they all passed the test with flying colours.
They pressed effectively, and when attacking, they also offered some defence-splitting passes.
It's great to know that when Aiden O'Neill is unavailable to take his place there, these three can fill that void, not to mention that the likes of Manuel Pucciarelli and Taras Gomulka are also in the mix and, perhaps, a new Japanese number 10.
Arnie, you're nuts not to call up Nabbout
This decision from Socceroos coach Graham Arnold raised my bushy eyebrows initially and after seeing Andrew Nabbout's performance today, I'm only more puzzled.
This man's ability to all of a sudden pop up to have a positive impact on his team with a goal, dangerous cross or a gut-busting defensive effort is second to none, and we saw all of the above today.
Alas, Australia's loss is Melbourne City's gain. Thank god we'll hold onto him for this international window.
I hope they come to Newcastle next week. Come on you City boys
