Talking points preview: Western United vs City

Your City boys will be walking out against Western United on Saturday as three-time Premiers for the first time.

Consecutively winning these titles, we have made history, becoming the first A-League Men's side to complete a Premiers Plate three-peat.

With City fans surely flocking to the Western United 'away' game come Saturday evening, it will be fantastic to welcome our lads back to Melbourne before watching them lift the plate against the Wanderers in the following week.

We will look to break yet another record, only needing to gain one more point to surpass 49 points, reached twice over the past two seasons (talk about consistency!).

Without further delay, here are our massive talking points leading into this one:

Up all night to get...

Leckie! The Socceroos vs Denmark hero is back yet again in City colours, making the squad after a long eight games away from the team due to injury.

Since then, Marco Tilio, Andrew Nabbout and Jordan Bos all stepped up considerably, making Leckie's return at this point in the season absolutely terrifying for opponents-to-be. The firepower that this side contains has been evident all season, so here's hoping that Leckie is fit and ready to go for these last two league games.

Exciting times to be a City fan over the next two weeks, for it is party central. A Leckie goal would be even sweeter, but let's bring it home strong.

Return of the Dutchman

It's all about returning players this week! Richard van der Venne comes back into the team after missing six games due to injury. It seems like a lifetime ago that we were battered away from home at Adelaide, with Richard then picking up a calf injury prior to the game against Brisbane Roar.

With so many injuries coming at once, it was looking a bit dire for a moment. However, our squad prevailed, with Aidan O'Neill becoming one to watch, bagging a few goals while controlling that midfield.

We will welcome Richard's creativity and ability on the ball back with open arms, hoping he sees some minutes against Western United. With the Dutchman signed on for next season, it will be integral to ensure he stays fit and in sync with his colleagues. We're going for four next season, don't you worry about that.

Another three-peat on the cards

Just as we've sealed one three-peat, one would say there is another on the cards. It's me. I'm saying it. With a win this weekend, we have the chance to go for the jugular, sending Western United's finals hopes to the grave with a third win from three games this season.

This reminds us of when our little cousins first came into the league, when we went five from five against the club. It would be brilliant to send the still homeless club to their humble beginnings, dominating them for yet another season.

All jokes aside, Western came out hungry against Adelaide United last week, snatching a 1-0 win while securing our three-peat.

They'll have to go even harder to take anything from a strengthened City side this weekend, however.

Score prediction: Western United 1 - 4 City
