French sports newspaper L'Équipe has reported that 29-year-old Kosovan international Valon Berisha is set to join Melbourne City on a one-year loan deal without an option to buy from Stade Reims in France's Ligue 1.
The midfielder hasn't made a single top-flight appearance in 2022/23 thus far and only 13 (eight off the bench) in 2021/22, so doesn't appear to be a part of Reims manager Óscar García's plans any time soon.
Berisha (no relation to Besart) joined Reims from Lazio, where he featured 22 times over the course of his two-year stay that included a short-term loan spell at German Bundesliga side Fortuna Dusseldorf in 2020.
The 35-time Kosovan international operates primarily as a central midfielder, but also has historical and recent experience playing as a 6, 10 or left winger.
With Florin Berenguer, Marco Tilio, Richard van der Venne, and now potentially Berisha to fit into our two more advanced midfield roles beyond the #6, it is unclear exactly who misses out, and whether a change of system or favoured personnel is at hand.
