Players denied entry to ACT

Updated: Jul 9, 2020

Breaking news tonight with the Melbourne City FC squad hitting a hurdle in their efforts to leave Victoria for the season recommencement, with players being denied entry into the ACT and told to return to their homes.

The players were due to travel on a chartered plane this evening (07/07/20) but have been turned away and are heading back home to their families. No official reason has been provided with a source close to the players revealing that the only information that they have been given is that they would have to quarantine for 14 days without the ability to train. This will cause havoc with the FFA's plans for the season to resume with restrictions being upgraded back to level 3 for metropolitan Melbourne meaning that the squad is unlikely to be able to train together, if at all, before leaving for the NSW hub. Reports have been published that the FFA and NSW government are working together to get travel exemptions for the players and staff, but at the time of publishing there is no official word on timelines being announced. The one silver lining as reported by Talking City live on 1116 SEN is that Adrian Luna should be able to join his teammates in the next 24-48 hours as his international quarantine period will be ending. Will we see the season resume? Are these hurdles too big for the A-League to get over?
