Lydia Williams is the latest Matildas superstar to head over to Europe with the Sydney Morning Herald reporting that she has been signed to a one-year deal with an option to extend for a second season.
The 32-year-old leaves City on a high after yet another stellar season with a record-equalling number of goals conceded during the season and yet another premiership/championship double. Williams is a mainstay of the Matildas and will be looking to use this time in Europe to keep sharp ahead of the 2023 Women’s World Cup which will be staged in Australia and New Zealand. Williams talked about her move with Anthony Colangelo, saying, “I love coming home and playing in the W-League ... but to be able to be based in one place for one club is just going to be an absolute heaven-sent opportunity. You have to change styles of play between clubs, be comfortable with travel and this will be the first time I will have a pre-season in six years.
"It is different, but not in a bad way. I just want to be in one spot playing at one club." We wish Lydia well and cant wait to see her in action for Arsenal in the near future! Original story from the Sydney Morning Herald can be found here.
