Melbourne City's W-League side have claimed their first win of the season with a 3-2 win over arch-rivals Melbourne Victory in what was a vastly improved performance when compared to the 6-0 drubbing they copped last week.
Here's what we learned from today's match.
Look Out, Chidiac and Kira Have Arrived:
We've seen only bits and pieces of both players so far this season, but today their unquestionable talent was on full display.
The contributions of either player in the buildup to the goals we scored could only be described as a class above. More flashes of brilliance like that and the rest of the competition will be on red alert.
Throw recent signing Noor Eckhoff into the starting lineup and suddenly City have a far-more balanced squad than could have been expected, with Eckhoff's defensive astuteness liberating Chidiac to play a more dynamic role in midfield, which in turn frees up Kira to assume an even more advanced role.
The wheels have finally started turning at City; here's hoping they don't halt anytime soon.
Tony Gustavsson, Familiar With a Certain Teagan Micah?
If our relatively new Matildas coach hasn't done himself a favour and watched Teagan Micah between the sticks for Melbourne City yet this season, then he is well and truly doing himself a disservice.
In today's incredible performance, Micah again reprised her role as Gandalf in her adoption of the"You Shall Not Pass!" attitude that I've previously spoken of, competently keeping out the majority of shots that came her way.
She can certainly be forgiven for the two that she did concede; Victory's goals were class.
If Anyone Deserved a Goal Today, It Was Harriet Withers:
After a challenging introduction to the W-League in the first three rounds, today we saw what was Harriet Withers' best game for Melbourne City to date.
She gave 100% effort on the right flank, making run after run with or without the ball at her feet causing all sorts of headaches for the Melbourne Victory defence.
Withers got rewarded for her persistence with what turned out to be the winning goal, which she put away in some style. Here's hoping that she'll build on what she produced today.
