It’s the news you’ve all been waiting for; Jamie Maclaren has signed a new two-year contract extension with Melbourne City, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2023/24 A-League season.
Despite the lack of specific potential destinations, the 27-year-old is thought to have snubbed interest from England, Europe and Asia to extend his contract with Melbourne City, which was previously set to expire at the end of June 2022.
Maclaren is City’s all-time leading goalscorer and has both scored more goals and made more appearances for the club than any other in his senior career to date, having netted 59 times in 63 games.
Following his arrival in January 2019, Maclaren is now expected to remain in Melbourne for a fourth, fifth and sixth season and will be turning 31 the month after the June 2024 expiration.
The much-loved striker’s contract extension confirms an incredible, all-Melbourne-born, all-Socceroo front three of Mathew Leckie, Jamie Maclaren and Andrew Nabbout for the coming seasons. Melbourne City are yet to re-sign 33-year-old winger Craig Noone.
