Last night at Aami Park we were invited for a Q&A with new manager Erick Mombaerts, Erick spoke about wanting to bring back the enjoyment as well as wanting to create a new attacking mentality.
Mombaerts is relishing the environment and working within CFG and looks to bring a fresh approach to the club and allow the players to play a fluid attacking style. He also stresses that the players cannot forget about their defensive duties though and will expect them to work hard both in offense and defence.
The need for a style of play to be clear from the senior team down through the youth ranks was made a matter of priority, we will see the NPL players trying to play fluid attacking football same as the senior Hyundai A-League side. We can also expect to see some young faces this upcoming season.
Mombaerts spoke about the need to develop young players and to provide them with game time and a platform to perform but also warned that everyone must perform well to maintain their position in the side.
We cannot wait to see the team in action and luckily we won’t have to wait long with a soon to be announced friendly to take place on the 23rd of July against a Victorian NPL opponent.
Let us know what your initial thoughts of Erick are in the comments.
Huge welcome to Eric and the best of luck to the team, management and support staff - let the season start in a positive manner and continue to the finals at seasons end. Go Team City.
