*Fearsomely* nicknamed “Cangrejo” (‘Crab’ in Spanish), the forward struggled for game-time last season in Mexico’s Liga MX, and was limited to just 5 appearances off the bench for Toluca. He then transferred to former youth club Montevideo Wanderers in Uruguay’s Primera División, for whom he took to the field 12 times, scoring one goal.

‘Cangrejo’ Cabrera had his most successful stint, in regards to his goals-to-games ratio, at Argentinos Juniors in the first and second divisions of the Argentinian footballing pyramid, scoring 7 goals and assisting 6 times in 64 appearances.

The Uruguayan has also previously played in Spain’s second division with Recreativo Huelva.

Speaking to Melbourne City’s website, Cabrera said:

“I am proud to sign for Melbourne City for the next two years, and to test myself in the A-League,” Cabrera told the club's website.

“The club has clear ambitions and focus to play its football in an exciting, attacking style and I’m looking forward to contributing to its future success with our new head coach.

“I enjoy playing free-flowing, attacking football and helping create chances for my teammates. Melbourne is world famous for its sporting culture, and I can’t wait to experience that and to meet our fans.”
