Brillante discusses future amid India rumours

Speaking to journalists via an online press conference this morning, Josh Brillante was asked about his links to Melbourne City’s sister club in the Indian Super League Mumbai City and whether he had any interest in furthering his footballing career on the subcontinent.

The midfielder played a fairly straight bat when dismissing any potential transfer to Mumbai City, telling journalists that he’d “heard as much as you have”, primarily via social media.

“My focus is here at Melbourne City. I want to finish off this season and get some silverware,” he concluded.

Earlier in the press conference, the 27-year-old commended the work of the club to get the playing group back to being “not far off” their fitness levels from mid-season. The midfielder even expressed his belief that the group was fitter than they were deep into their pre-season regime leading into the 2019/20 campaign.

“It’s been nice to have that break to reset mentally,” he said, but is adamant that the players are taking this as a season to be finished rather than a season renewed, “There’s no time to work into things.”

With plenty to play for when the season restarts on July 16, Brillante admitted that whilst the team had an ambitious desire to pull off a miracle chase-down of league-leaders Sydney FC, they couldn’t afford to look too far ahead, with Wellington Phoenix hot on City’s tail for second-place.

“We haven’t cemented that second spot yet, we have played more games so it’s more important for us to get results in these three games that we have left.”

“[The rest of the games] are going to be like a mini-tournament, in a sense.”

Brillante reconfirmed that teammate Adrián Luna was not yet back into the country.
