In a squad where you would struggle to cram in any further attacking threat, Melbourne City have done just that. A seasoned veteran of the Italian football pyramid, Manuel Pucciarelli comes in on a two-year deal, replacing cult hero Adrian Luna after his exit to India.
An attacking player who found his best form under current Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri, Pucciarelli will certainly be looking to challenge for silverware at City. According to FBRef, the Italian scored 11 goals and notched 4 assists across the Serie B and Serie A during Sarri's two seasons in charge, and will surely be keen to improve upon this tally over the coming years at City.
Since the relegation of Chievo from the Serie A in the 18/19 season, Pucciarelli has amassed a total of 2,370 minutes of game time. This may worry some, but we must remember: Fornaroli had minimal minutes prior to City too.
We all know how that turned out.
This signing undoubtedly signifies a season where places in City's first team are not certain, but rather up for grabs. Foreign players, such as Pucciarelli, are not looking for a "retirement league", but rather at the allure of winning silverware, such as the Asian Champions League.
Welcome to City, Manuel.
